It's our 2014 Balfa Week, April 5-10, 2014, and full- and part-time walkup registration is now onsite at Vermilionville!

Louisiana Folk Roots' 15th annual Dewey Balfa Cajun and Creole Heritage Week brings together an incredible lineup of classes, daily featured artists and dance bands, and everyone is invited to take part in this unparalleled learning camp and cultural celebration.

Schedule highlights include a dozen morning intensive classes each day teaching all levels of fiddle, accordion, guitar and vocals; afternoon lagniappe sessions on those topics and more including dance and cuisine; daily featured artists songs-and-stories sessions; three-hour evening dances with top Cajun and Creole bands; and a free Sunday evening Superjam des Amis!

All afternoon sessions and evening dances are just $10 each, and half-day, full-day and full-week pricing options including delectable cuisine are available. Advance registration is recommended for morning sessions but onsite walk-up registration will be available for all Balfa Week activities.

The full-time artistic staff for the debut of Balfa Week in Lafayette includes some of the best-known artists in Cajun and Creole music: Brazos Huval, Sam Broussard, Gina Forsyth, Courtney Granger, D'Jalma Garnier, David Greely, Blake Miller, Jonno Frishberg, Preston Frank and Paul Daigle. These artists will teach Morning Intensive Classes at 9 a.m. daily from Sunday, April 6 through Thursday, April 10, and many of them will also be featured during 4 p.m. Daily Lagniappe Sessions on fiddle, guitar, accordion, Cajun and Creole vocals, and other topics on those same dates. Admission to morning sessions ranges from $50 to $225, with half-day options including breakfast or lunch.

Admission to our Featured Artist series is just $10 per session.

Evening dances are just $10 each as well, and kickoff with a special "early bird" Balfa Week Welcome Dance featuring Bonsoir, Catin and Feufollet at 9:30 p.m. Friday, April 4 at The Blue Moon Saloon.

Balfa Week officially opens on Saturday, April 5 in the Vermilionville Performance Center with a double-bill dance featuring Balfa Toujours from 7:30-9:30 p.m. and Soul Creole featuring Corey "Lil' Pop" Ledet and Louis Michot from 10 p.m.-midnight.

Sunday, April 6, after our Featured Artist session featuring D.L. Menard & Friends and our 4 p.m. Lagniappe Sessions, admission is free for our Sunday Superjam des Amis! Bring your instruments and your appetites for deluxe barbecue chicken dinners and blackpot jambalaya, and jam with hosts Yvette Landry and Brazos Huval from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and hosts Mitch Reed and Jimmy Breaux from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Monday night our evening dance series resumes in the Vermilionville Performance Center, and admission is just $10 per dance. Come early and enjoy a very special dinner featuring intimate musical performances at 5:45 p.m. for just $25 including tea, coffee, tax and gratuity.
