School of Music

Held annually in August or September at the Acadiana Center for the Arts, this four-evening program allows for one-on-one and small group instruction in accordion, fiddle and guitar with some of the top musicians Louisiana has to offer. Past Schools have featured Steve Riley and The Mamou Playboys and The Pine Leaf Boys.

Louisiana Folk Roots and Creativity @ the Center present
The Lost Bayou Ramblers School of Music, September 2011

On Tuesday, September 6, we'll crank up our fourth set of School of Music workshops, and we're thrilled to announce that our 2011 sessions will feature all five members, two alums and a major mentor of the one and only, Grammy-nominated Lost Bayou Ramblers!

For three consecutive Tuesdays beginning Sept. 6, the members of The Lost Bayou Ramblers along with special guests Tommy Michot, Matthew Doucet and Alan LaFleur will present a wide variety of tunes and topics open to intermediate level fiddlers, accordionists and guitarists (and bassists, too!). These unique sessions will culminate on Sunday, Sept. 25 with a cool graduation ceremony and "school-wide" jam session in which our LBRSOM students will be invited to play the tunes they've learned with the entire band!

Our "school" works a lot like our annual Dewey Balfa Cajun and Creole Heritage Week. Series registrants are welcome to attend any and all sessions, and even move between simultaneous classes. And though these sessions are designed to be of the greatest benefit to intermediate-level players, players of all levels and even non-players are welcome to register on a first-come, first-served basis.

You'll learn the following "school songs" over the course of the four weeks: "The Blue Moon Special," "Les Plats Tout Mit,"
"Mexico One-Step," and "Valse de McGee et Courville/
Happy One-Step Medley
."

Best of all, admission to this series of four sessions is just $30 for members of Friends of Louisiana Folk Roots or the Acadiana Center for the Arts, and just $40 for the general public. But space is limited, so please call (337) 233-7060 to enroll now, or click here to enroll online. (A $1 facility fee will be added to each series ticket, along with $2 per online order.)
